Riley on Light Bulbs

We bought one of those curly lightbulbs, the ones that give off a terrible light and give you a headache, for our bathroom in the basement. The reason was because it kept burning out so I thought I'd try something different. Of course the packaging on those says you should leave them on for at least 15 minutes or they will burn out quicker and won't get as bright. So here's how the exchange between Riley and Shena went upon him seeing that the light was on:

Riley - "I know why this lightbulb burns out - we keep leaving it on when we leave the room"

Mommy - "That's this kind of lightbulb. You have to leave it on so it will get bright and last longer"

Riley - "Ok, WHAT kind of person invents a lightbulb like that?!?"

You have to love the common sense that kids are capable of using.

Pumpkin Junkin' 2009

We junked our pumpkins today, and I think they all turned out really cute (except for Riley's spider pumpkin which is kind of scary!!) John even did a pumpkin this year. Here are some photos of our pumpkins, and of the boys working on theirs.

Pumpkins and Scary Paintings

We stopped by Dick Blick for some art stuff today and there was a scary painting contest going on - I have to admit Riley's spider painting scared me!! Then we picked up some pumpkins so we can decorate them tomorrow (if we all get over our yucky colds that is...)

What a Fun Night!!

After an extremely tired mommy burned popcorn and stunk up the whole house we decided that she (aka me) should not be trusted to cook dinner.... Plus, Riley was super excited about a fun new workbook at school and he really wanted to go to Barnes & Noble to get a fun new workbook for at home too...

So, we decided to have a treat tonight and head out to Red Lobster for some shrimp, and then to Barnes & Noble for some shopping. As we were sitting at Red Lobster Riley leaned right up next to me and whispered, "Mommy, it's probably not really true... but you never know... but it might not be... but doesn't that man look like Santa Claus!?" And sure enough I looked across the room to where Riley was very discretely pointing and the man DID look like Santa Claus! When our waitress got back we asked her whether she knew if that man was Santa or not. She had her friend who was waiting on his table ask him and then came back to report that he wasn't Santa, but he was one of Santa's Helpers who was out and about checking on how kids were behaving so he could let Santa know. Well, it just so happens that both of my boys were being total angels tonight - so a good report is going to Santa!! (= Riley was so excited that he called Nenny and Nonn and told them all about it. (we got a photo on my phone of Santa's Helper from across the restaurant, it's hard to see him in the camera photo, but he is in the booth in the corner)

After dinner we headed to BN and had a good time picking out some books. Then we all came home, snuggled up and the boys are now fast asleep. What a great start to the weekend! (=
